Humane Society

We love volunteering at the Humane Society!

It was so cold today that instead of taking the dogs outside, we spent time with them inside the kennels.

The guy above is Rex, proudly sporting one of the bandannas we made.

Rex shakes hands with Sunni and she rewards him with a treat.

Mike with Boomer, who also loves to shake for treats.

The cats that Mike and Sunni helped socialize were rescued from a hoarding situation where there were 93 cats living together in one house.

Melissa checks out the kittens.

Getting ready to head back to Port City. We'll be volunteering at the Humane Society again in February and March.

Today's project

We're using some donated fabric to make bandannas for the dogs at the Humane Society.

Our group will deliver them when we volunteer there later this month.

Hands at work- tracing, measuring, and cutting. John B didn't want the Port City goats to be left out, so he even made bandannas for them too.

Oregon Food Bank

Alison was interested in volunteering at the food bank so our group signed up for a few shifts in the Volunteer Action Center last month. On the first day, Jack, Sean, Emily, and Alison helped measure and bag bulk beans. The second day, Sean, Robin, and Brett bagged onions and on our third visit, Alison, Jack, Lamont, and Aaron bagged oranges. It was fun being in the big space with all of the other volunteers- there was a lot of energy in the room. Every now and then a bell would ring to announce how many pounds of food we'd bagged and everyone would cheer and clap. When we reached the bottom of the bin it truly felt as if everyone had accomplished something together as a team. Thanks for the suggestion Alison, we'll be back!
